IMPORTANT: THIS IS A PDF COURSE, VIDEOS, TUTORSHIP (by whatsapp), THEREFORE, YOU ARE REQUIRED TO STUDY, PRACTICE AND CONTACT TEACHER TO ELIMINATE ANY DOUBT.
REQUIRES PERFORMING THE INDICATED TASKS TO OBTAIN A PRINTABLE FINAL CERTIFICATE.
MATERIALS
• Temporary support, various pastes, to start: gray potter clay paste (others will be indicated)
• Nylon (thick and thin)
• Tracing paper
• 1 water soluble marker and an indelible one (fine or medium tips)
• Spray bottle
• Vinyl glue (PVA) diluted in water to 50% (other adhesives will be indicated)
• Thick gauze diaper or cloth type (neither too open nor too closed)
• Support to work: MDF of 20 cm x 20 cm, thickness of 5 mm and final support to place (it can be fiber cement or MDF plate varnished or with 3 coats of 50% diluted glue)
• Cutting tools (tiling, 2 casters, compound action, and if you want also hammer and hardie).
• Marble, smalti (if you do not have those, you can use ceramic tiles of at least 5 mm thick to do the initial practices), specifically about 1 cm3 each tile
• Cement or mortar, adhesive and pigments for it (ferrites, small quantity)
The double reverse method or Ravenna Tradizionalle is placed face up (same as the direct method), but on a temporary support. The mosaic is removed from the temporary support and transferred to the permanent easily and safely.
Advantages of the Ravenna method: it allows to make changes effortlessly by arranging the tiles as much as we want, to work in an upright position (the work is better appreciated to see it from a distance and we avoid neck injuries), to look at the front of the mosaic while working, and to leave it for a while and then continue working as long as necessary (days, weeks, months), level tile thicknesses to obtain an even surface, place on any type of support, even curved. The cover is then removed and is generally NOT grouted.
